FAQ & A

The things parents really want to know

Honest answers about how NapBit reads your baby's sleep, gathered from the questions parents ask us most.

Understanding your baby's sleep
Is it normal for my baby's breathing to be uneven while they sleep?
Yes. Healthy babies often breathe in a stop-start rhythm, especially in lighter "active" sleep, with short pauses followed by quicker breaths. Newborn breathing is also naturally fast (around 40-60 breaths a minute) and settles as they grow.
How NapBit works for you
Other monitors kept waking me with false alarms. Why would NapBit be different?
Because it never relies on one signal. NapBit reads your baby's breathing and movement together and looks at how they relate, so a brief pause while your baby resettles stays quiet, and only a real, sustained change reaches you.
So when will NapBit actually notify me?
When both signals change together in a way that lasts, not for the ordinary pauses and shifts that happen all night. A quiet night means all is well; a notification means something genuinely worth your attention.
What will NapBit actually show me?
A continuous, real-time view of your baby's breathing and movement in the app, with a simple "all good" when things are calm. You see the actual rhythm of their night, not just a single number.
How does NapBit work through my baby's clothes, a swaddle, or a layer of bedding?
NapBit reads your baby's breathing and movement through soft layers up to about 2 cm thick, so clothing, a swaddle, or a light covering over the sheet won't get in its way.
With no microphone or camera, how would NapBit know my baby is crying?
Crying has its own signature: faster, more forceful breathing paired with a particular kind of movement. NapBit reads that combined pattern in real time, so it recognises the signs of crying without ever needing to listen in.
How will NapBit know when my baby is hungry or uncomfortable?
Hunger and discomfort each leave their own signature in a baby's breathing and movement. IdaSense is very sensitive and able to read them. The algorithms are in development now. It can also pick up your baby's heartbeat, and together those three signals open the door to richer insights over time.
Is it safe to have a sensor under my baby all night?
It's a passive sensor. It simply responds to the gentle pressure of your baby lying on it as they breathe and move, then sends that reading to your app. The signal only ever travels outward; nothing is directed into your baby.
Trust & privacy
Is the technology real, or am I trusting a brand-new startup?
NapBit is built on Nobel-recognised material science, the conductive-polymer discovery honoured with the 2000 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and the design is patent-protected in six countries.
What makes NapBit private?
NapBit understands your baby through breathing and movement, so it never needs to watch or listen. There is nothing to see, share, or hack. The privacy isn't a setting you switch on; it's simply how NapBit works.
